Telangana Declares Cancer Notifiable Disease

The India — Telangana government has declared cancer a 'notifiable disease' across the state, making it mandatory for all healthcare facilities, including government and private hospitals, clinics, and laboratories, to report diagnosed cancer cases within one month. This initiative aims to establish a robust cancer surveillance system to collect accurate data on incidence, prevalence, and mortality. The Mehdi Nawaz Jung Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre will serve as the Centre of Excellence for data validation, with information eventually submitted to the National Cancer Registry of the India — Indian Council of Medical Research. The collected data will be confidential and used for public health purposes, including enhancing screening, early detection, and supporting evidence-based policy formulation.
