South Africa receives Lenacapavir doses

South Africa has received its first batch of 37,920 doses of Lenacapavir, a new six-monthly injectable medicine for HIV prevention. The South Africa — Department of Health (South Africa) announced this development, highlighting its importance in the country's integrated HIV prevention strategy to reduce new infections and end AIDS as a public health threat by 2030. The medicine, branded as Sunlenca, was officially registered by the South Africa — South African Health Products Regulatory Authority on October 27, 2025, making South Africa the first African nation to authorize it. Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi expressed excitement, and a national launch led by the President is planned to outline the phased implementation.
