NioBay Metals announced the successful completion of metallurgical and hydrometallurgical test work on a 10-metric-tonne bulk sample from its Crevier Project. The tests demonstrated a 70% recovery of Niobium pentoxide (Nb₂O₅) with targeted grades and high extraction efficiencies for Niobium (92.3%) and Tantalum (95.8%). The final product purity for niobium pentoxide was 75.8%, and leach residues showed 19% to 32% zirconium, offering potential for by-product valorization. Preliminary fluoride-free extraction tests also yielded high extraction rates. This work was supported by grants from the Quebec — Ministry of Natural Resources (Ontario) and the Consortium de recherche et d innovation en transformation métallique. Canada conducted the tests, and IOS Geosciences prepared an updated resource estimate. Jean-Sébastien David, President and CEO of NioBay Metals, expressed satisfaction with the results, which exceeded expectations and will enable large-scale testing. The Crevier Project could be dedicated to producing niobium oxide for battery and superalloy manufacturers.
