India approves Jaipur Metro Phase-2

The India — Union Council of Ministers, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Rs 13,037.66 crore Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project. This transformative 41 km North-South corridor will feature 36 stations, connecting major activity nodes in Jaipur, India. The project will be implemented by India — Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture of the Centre and the India — Rajasthan government. It aims to provide seamless connectivity, integrate with the existing Jaipur Metro Phase-1, and significantly increase ridership, easing traffic congestion and reducing vehicular emissions. Funding will come from equity support from the Centre and the India — Rajasthan government, subordinate debt, and multilateral financing. Targeted for completion by September 2031, the project aligns with national sustainable urban transport objectives and is expected to enhance mobility for residents, workers, and tourists, reinforcing Jaipur's position as a modern city.
