The positive review of the pipeline surveillance contract by the Nigeria — National Assembly (Nigeria) is expected to boost investor confidence in Nigeria's oil sector. Increased crude oil production by NNPC Limited and Tantita Security Services will likely lead to higher national revenue and improved market stability for oil and gas.
The Nigeria — National Assembly (Nigeria)'s joint committees on Petroleum Resources dismissed three petitions against the pipeline surveillance contract and passed a vote of confidence in Tantita Security Services and NNPC Limited. This decision followed a parliamentary roundtable on pipeline security and crude oil theft. The committees acknowledged that the surveillance contract, initiated in 2022, has significantly increased Nigeria's crude oil production from approximately 900,000 barrels per day to about 1.8 million barrels per day by April 2026. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas highlighted the importance of securing oil assets amid global energy uncertainties and noted that the contract has also created thousands of jobs for youths in the Nigeria — Niger Delta, providing an alternative to illegal activities. Despite the progress, concerns about accountability and transparency persist, and the Nigeria — National Assembly (Nigeria) reaffirmed its commitment to legislative and oversight actions, including the Petroleum Industry Act, to further strengthen the sector.
