The acquisition of the Horizonte Concessions by Coppernico Metals is expected to positively impact its stock price due to the expansion of its Sombrero Project and the potential for significant copper-gold discoveries. This event signals increased exploration activity in Peru's mining sector, potentially attracting further investment.
Coppernico Metals announced the acquisition of an option on 600 hectares of mineral concessions, known as the Horizonte Concessions, adjacent to its Tipicancha target within the Sombrero Project in Peru. This strategic move, along with the staking of an additional 1,400 hectares in 2025, significantly expands Coppernico Metals' land position. The option agreement with Exploraciones Horizonte Gold S.A.C. allows Coppernico Metals' subsidiary, Sombrero Minerales S.A.C., to conduct exploration immediately and purchase the concessions by completing US$3.0 million in work expenditures over five years and making US$2.0 million in payments. Exploraciones Horizonte Gold S.A.C. will retain a 1% net smelter return royalty, which Coppernico Metals can reduce to 0.5% for a US$1.0 million payment. The Tipicancha target is considered a high-impact area with strong indicators of a potential porphyry source at depth, building on historical exploration by Minera del Suroeste S.A.C. in a joint venture with Newmont.
