Nigeria Urges UN Fair Hydrogen Economy

Nigeria, through its Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Bagudu, urged the United Nations to promote an inclusive and fair hydrogen economy at the Conference on Clean Hydrogen in Austria — Vienna, Austria. Nigeria emphasized that the transition to clean hydrogen should not replicate past inequalities where value creation was concentrated in a few regions. The country views hydrogen as a pathway to industrialization, job creation, energy security, and economic diversification. Under President Bola Tinubu's administration, Nigeria is implementing a National Hydrogen Policy, leveraging natural gas for blue hydrogen and scaling renewable energy for green hydrogen opportunities. Nigeria called for concerted action, policy frameworks, and international cooperation to mobilize investment and ensure fair access to finance for developing countries.
