India — Deendayal Port Authority (Kandla Port) has significantly advanced its methanol bunkering capabilities, positioning itself as a key player in India's energy transition and global green shipping corridors. This move aligns with the maritime sector's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 through the adoption of low-carbon alternative fuels like e-methanol and e-ammonia. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized India's commitment to sustainable maritime growth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. On April 2, 2026, India — Deendayal Port Authority successfully conducted a trial shore-to-ship methanol bunkering operation in collaboration with partners including Stolt Tankers, J. M. Baxi Group, Aegis Vopak Terminals Limited, and Indian Oil Corporation. The port engaged DNV Maritime Advisory Services to assess its readiness, achieving a Level 6 rating on the IAPH Port Readiness Level scale. India — Deendayal Port Authority plans to ensure the availability of approximately 500 KTPA of RFNBO-compliant e-methanol by 2028-29 and will undertake ship-to-ship methanol bunkering in the next phase.
