Russia approves Pakistan potato imports

The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Russia — Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) has approved the import of potatoes from Pakistan, into Russia, effective April 8, 2026. This decision lifts phytosanitary restrictions that had been in place since May 2025. Initially, three Pakistani exporters, Chase International, Zahid Kinnow Grinding & Waxing Plant, and National Fruit, have been authorized to export. This development is crucial for Pakistan, which is experiencing a bumper potato crop, as it will help absorb surplus stocks, stabilize domestic prices, support farming communities, and generate foreign exchange. The achievement is a result of coordinated efforts by various Pakistani government agencies, including the Pakistan — Ministry of National Food Security & Research, Pakistan — Department of Plant Protection, Pakistan — Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, and Pakistan — Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company, along with Pakistan's Trade Mission in Moscow. The Pakistan government had also previously sought federal assistance to reduce freight charges for potato and kinnow exports, particularly through Iran, to address logistical challenges.
