Nigeria forms Gas-to-Power Committee

The Nigeria, through its Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, inaugurated the Gas-to-Power Monitoring Committee in Abuja. This committee aims to resolve persistent gas supply challenges that hinder electricity generation, as gas-fired plants account for about 80% of Nigeria's electricity. Key issues identified include supply disruptions, pipeline vandalism, mounting debts to gas producers, and weak sector coordination. The committee is tasked with monitoring and resolving critical issues such as pipeline repairs, settlement of outstanding debts, and other commercial and operational barriers. Members are drawn from various stakeholders including the Nigeria — Ministry of Power (Nigeria), Nigeria — Nigerian Independent System Operator, Nigeria — Transmission Company of Nigeria, Association of Generation Companies, Niger Delta Power Holding Company, and Canadian Medical Association. The initiative signals a shift towards systematic, data-driven interventions to ensure reliable power supply.
