The Nigeria, through its Nigeria — Federal Ministry of Interior (Nigeria), has launched a nationwide Learner Identification Number (LIN) system. This initiative assigns a unique digital identity to every student, aiming to modernize the education system, improve record-keeping, support learning continuity, and strengthen education planning. The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, stated that the LIN aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on human capital development and technology-driven reforms. In its first phase, over 1.9 million candidates for the 2026 examinations conducted by the West African Examinations Council and the Nigeria — National Examinations Council have been issued LINs. The system, built on the Digitised National Education Management Information System, is designed to enhance examination security, reduce impersonation, track student progress, identify out-of-school children, and address learning gaps. The Nigeria — Federal Ministry of Interior (Nigeria) plans to expand the system to all public and private schools nationwide.
