Ribbon Communications, a global leader in real-time communications technology, announced the successful completion of a Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) proof of concept with CESNET, operator of the Czech Republic's national academic computer network. This test demonstrated that quantum encryption can be deployed in real-world optical networks using Ribbon Communications' Apollo system without compromising performance. Václav Novák of CESNET highlighted the mission to ensure high-level security for academic and research communications, while Christian Erbe of Ribbon Communications emphasized QKD as the future of secure networking. The Apollo system provides Layer 1 optical encryption with virtually zero latency, blocking all payload and addressing information, and is designed to carry any client service without interoperability issues.
