Kogi Youth Protest for Joash Ojo Amupitan

Hundreds of youths in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Nigeria — Kogi State, staged a protest to support Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission. They condemned what they described as politically motivated attempts to undermine his leadership and discredit the electoral system. The protests come amid national debates and calls from some opposition groups, including the Nigeria — African Democratic Congress, for Joash Amupitan's removal due to alleged political affiliations and bias. The Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission has rejected these calls, asserting that such demands are unconstitutional and threaten its independence, emphasizing that its leadership is governed by Section 157 of the 1999 Constitution. Joash Amupitan was appointed by Bola Tinubu in October 2025.
