This could lead to increased investment and market growth in nutrition-focused and sustainable food systems.
The 2nd International Symposium on Yeast Protein Science and Technology, co-hosted by Angel Yeast, was held in Yichang on April 11, 2026. The event gathered over 350 global researchers and industry executives to discuss advancements in the alternative protein sector. Keynote speakers, including Sun Baoguo and Chen Jian from the China — Chinese Academy of Engineering and Zhou Weibiao from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, highlighted the reshaping food tech landscape, the potential of biomanufacturing, and the need for food self-sufficiency. A significant moment was the global unveiling of the White Paper of Yeast Protein (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), which positions microbial fermentation as a long-term solution to protein supply challenges. Angel Yeast also launched two new yeast protein products, AngeoPro Yeast Protein Hi90-A and Yeast Protein S80-A, targeting premium sports nutrition and ready-to-drink beverages. The symposium facilitated a joint research initiative between Beijing Technology and Business University and Angel Group, and strategic partnerships with five major food brands, aiming to transition yeast protein from an 'alternative' to a 'mainstream' protein.
