The wage hike in India — Uttar Pradesh, particularly in industrial hubs like India — Noida and India — Ghaziabad, is expected to increase labor costs for industries operating in these regions. The India — Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved an interim hike of approximately 21% in minimum wages across various worker categories, effective retrospectively from April 1. This decision followed large-scale protests and unrest by thousands of factory workers in India — Noida and India — Gautam Buddha Nagar district, who demanded higher wages and better working conditions. The revised monthly wages for unskilled workers in India — Gautam Buddha Nagar district and India — Ghaziabad increased to Rs 13,690, with corresponding increases for semi-skilled and skilled workers. Similar adjustments were made for other municipal corporation areas and districts. The government formed a high-powered committee to address the situation, which consulted with employers' bodies and labor organizations to reach a balanced outcome. Yogi Adityanath also urged employers to ensure timely wage payments, overtime compensation, and safe working conditions. The government clarified that reports of a uniform Rs 20,000 minimum wage were false, stating that the process for a national 'floor wage' is still underway at the central level.
