Nigeria Ogoniland Oil Production Resumption

Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL) has strongly advocated for the resumption of crude oil production in Nigeria — Ogoni people, Nigeria, which has been suspended since 1993 due to unrest and environmental concerns. PINL estimates that Nigeria has lost over $226 billion in revenue during this period. The company emphasizes that any restart must prioritize community participation, environmental sustainability, and transparency. PINL proposes a framework that includes full involvement of host communities, sustained environmental clean-up, community-based security, and economic inclusion through employment and contracts. Akpos Mezeh, General Manager for Community and Stakeholder Relations at PINL, highlighted the economic opportunity, stating that Nigeria — Ogoni people has the potential to produce over 500,000 barrels of crude oil per day. Chief Sergeant Awuse, a local monarch, also supported the call for resumption. PINL has also provided over N2 billion in scholarship grants to students from its host communities.
