The_Metals_Company Subsidiaries Submit Deep-Sea Data

The Metals Company's subsidiaries, Nauru Ocean Resources Inc. and Tonga Offshore Mining Limited, have submitted comprehensive deep-sea exploration data from 2013-2022 to DeepData, an open database managed by the International — International Seabed Authority. This dataset, representing roughly one-third of all Clarion Clipperton Zone data in DeepData, is the result of a decade of research and over $250 million in investment. The data will be made publicly available through DeepData and UNESCO's Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS) to advance scientific understanding of the deep ocean. The Metals Company's Environmental Manager, Michael Clarke, highlighted that the extensive Environmental Impact Assessments conducted are the most comprehensive for any mining project globally, challenging the narrative that 'we don't know enough' about deep-sea mining impacts. The Metals Company has also launched a video series to share key findings and demonstrate how innovation has reduced the environmental footprint of its collection system. In January, The Metals Company submitted an application under United States — National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's modernized regulatory framework, with a commercial recovery permit expected within 12 months.
