Kwara Monarch Abducted, Ransom Demanded

Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda, the traditional ruler of Lere Olayinka community in Nigeria — Ifelodun, Kwara State, was abducted by approximately ten armed terrorists on a Saturday evening. The attackers broke into his palace, demanded money he had reportedly received from miners as 'royalty,' and then took him and his brother. His brother was later abandoned. The Nigeria — Lagos State Police Command, led by CP Adekimi Ojo, launched an investigation, deploying drones and other resources, leading to the arrest of 42 illegal miners in the community. However, it is unconfirmed if the arrested miners are directly involved in the abduction. The abductors have since demanded a ransom of ₦400 million for Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda's release. Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, Chairman of Nigeria — Ifelodun, Kwara State, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern, stating that security agencies, forest guards, and local vigilantes have intensified search efforts. The event has heightened fears among residents and raised concerns about a resurgence of insecurity in Kwara South.
