bioMérieux's Sepsis Diagnostics Analysis

BioMérieux announced the publication of a multi-country health economic analysis, conducted by the Office of Health Economics, assessing the impact of fast identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (ID/AST) in sepsis care. The analysis, which examined healthcare systems across G7 countries including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, provides evidence that early use of fast diagnostics can reduce preventable deterioration into sepsis, improve patient outcomes, and generate substantial cost savings. Specifically, the analysis projects annual savings of approximately $42 million in Canada and $3 billion in the United States, along with preventing thousands of deaths and sepsis cases. Jessica Blavignac, John Osiecki, and Sophie Vandepitte from BioMérieux highlighted the compelling case for policymakers to reform how diagnostics are valued, funded, and integrated into clinical pathways.
