HII Celebrates REMUS UUV 25th Anniversary

Huntington Ingalls Industries celebrated the 25th anniversary of its REMUS unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) family at the 2026 Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition. Originally funded by the United States — Office of Naval Research and developed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, REMUS has evolved into the world's leading autonomous underwater vehicle platform, with over 750 vehicles delivered to more than 30 nations. These UUVs are used by 14 NATO navies, including the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, and Germany, for mine countermeasures, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and seabed mapping. Notable achievements include successful launch and recovery from United States Navy Virginia-class submarines and critical roles in global search operations. The United States Navy's Lionfish UUV program is based on Huntington Ingalls Industries's REMUS 300 platform. Huntington Ingalls Industries also signed a strategic agreement with Concorde International Group to integrate REMUS UUVs with submarine weapon handling and launch systems, expanding deployment options for allied submarine forces. The United States — National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also uses REMUS vehicles for environmental monitoring.
