Jongwon Ham Unfit for Murder Trial

Jongwon Ham, accused of the first-degree murder of RCMP Const. Shaelyn Yang in October 2022, has been found mentally unfit to stand trial by Canada — British Columbia Justice Michael Tammen. The judge ruled that Jongwon Ham's psychosis and delusions prevent him from making rational decisions regarding the court process. Two psychiatrists testified that Jongwon Ham suffers from a psychotic disorder. The matter has been referred to the Canada — British Columbia for a mental health hearing in 90 days. Shaelyn Yang, a mental health and outreach worker for the Canada — Royal Canadian Mounted Police, was stabbed to death while attempting to speak with Jongwon Ham in a tent in Burnaby, Canada — British Columbia. The Canada — Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia previously investigated an incident where Shaelyn Yang shot and wounded Jongwon Ham, concluding no officer committed an offense.
