Osun State Election Credibility Assured

The Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria — Osun State, Nigeria, has assured residents of a peaceful, credible, and transparent governorship election scheduled for August 15. This assurance was given by the new Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, while addressing protesters at the commission's office in Osogbo. The protests, organized by market women and civil society groups including the Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens led by Musa Abdulsalam, were sparked by the transfer of the former Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke. Protesters alleged that Mutiu Agboke's transfer was politically motivated and could lead to election manipulation. Oluwatoyin Babalola, represented by Niyi Fayanju and Rufus Ariyo, clarified that staff transfers are routine administrative procedures and pledged to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
