SpaceX Secures Cursor Acquisition Option

SpaceX has announced a collaboration with AI coding startup Cursor, securing an option to acquire the company for $60 billion later this year. Alternatively, SpaceX can opt for a strategic partnership by paying $10 billion. This move highlights Elon Musk's ambition to expand SpaceX's presence in artificial intelligence, particularly in AI-powered software development. The deal grants Cursor immediate access to Xai's Colossus supercomputer, which is equivalent to one million Nvidia H100 GPUs, enabling Cursor to significantly scale its AI model training efforts. Cursor, co-founded by Sualeh Asif, has rapidly grown, reaching over $1 billion in annualized revenue and attracting a $50 billion valuation in a recent funding round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Thrive Capital. The partnership aims to combine Cursor's advanced coding tools with SpaceX's computing infrastructure to develop highly capable AI models, positioning SpaceX to compete more directly with OpenAI and Anthropic in the AI market. This development comes as SpaceX prepares for a highly anticipated initial public offering, targeting a $1.75 trillion valuation.
