This could lead to increased demand for waste management services and potentially affect companies operating in that sector within the region.
The Nigeria — Government of Lagos State is reintroducing its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026. The exercise will take place every last Saturday of the month from 6:30 am to 8:30 am, with controlled movement across the state to allow residents to clean their homes and surroundings. Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab detailed the modalities, including enforcement by agencies like the Guyana — Guyana Environmental Protection Agency, Kick Against Indiscipline, and Nigeria — Lagos Waste Management Authority, with sanctions for defaulters. The Nigeria — Lagos Waste Management Authority will also deploy trucks for waste collection. Rewards will be given for the cleanest areas to encourage participation. This initiative, supported by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, revives a program suspended in November 2016 due to a court ruling against movement restrictions.
