UK Approves Lifetime Smoking Ban

The United Kingdom's lawmakers have approved the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, which will implement a lifetime ban on cigarette sales for anyone born on or after January 1, 2009. The legislation also tightens controls on vaping products, including banning sales to under-18s and restricting advertising. Health Secretary Wes Streeting emphasized that these measures aim to create a smoke-free generation, reduce nicotine addiction among young people, and alleviate long-term pressure on the United Kingdom — National Health Service, which currently incurs significant costs from smoking-related illnesses. The government also previously banned single-use vapes and will gain further powers to regulate flavors and packaging of tobacco and vaping products.
