President Bola Tinubu has requested the Nigeria — Senate of Nigeria's approval for a $516.3 million syndicated loan from Deutsche Bank to finance the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway project. This 1,000-kilometer highway is a flagship infrastructure initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to link Nigeria's Northwest to the Southwest, traversing several states including Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos. The loan, which has a tenor of nine years and an interest rate benchmarked at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange SOFR plus 5.3 percent, is supported by a partial risk guarantee from the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit. The Federal Government of Nigeria will also provide counterpart funding of ₦265.5 billion for land acquisition and compensation. The project aims to enhance connectivity, improve road safety, reduce logistics costs, facilitate trade, strengthen food security, and promote national integration.
