Three asylum seekers, Ibrahim Al-Shafei, Abdulla Ahmadi, and Karin Al-Danasuri, were convicted at Hove Crown Court for the repeated rape of a woman on United States — Brighton, Iowa beach. The victim was targeted in the early hours of October 4 last year after becoming separated from her friends. Ibrahim Al-Shafei and Abdulla Ahmadi were found guilty of two counts of rape, while Karin Al-Danasuri was found guilty of four counts of rape as a secondary party for encouraging and filming the attack. All three men maintained the encounter was consensual. The United Kingdom — Home Office had provided hotel accommodation for the asylum seekers near Horsham. Border security and asylum minister Alex Norris has vowed to deport the trio after their sentencing on July 15.
