India signs MoUs for drug quality

The India — Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the India — Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hajipur. The MoU with PMBI aims to strengthen the quality assurance framework for medicines distributed through Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs), allowing PMBI to submit medicine batches to IPC for quality testing and promoting the use of the National Formulary of India (NFI). It also seeks to enhance pharmacovigilance by displaying the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) QR code and helpline number at PMBJKs. The second MoU with NIPER Hajipur focuses on collaborative research, academic exchange, and capacity building in pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare products, including joint research on impurity profiling and development of analytical methods for biologics and cell/gene therapy products. Both agreements are intended to improve patient safety, rational medicine use, and innovation in pharmaceutical standards in India.
