The market will likely view United Bank for Africa's financial results positively due to the growth in total assets and customer deposits, and the successful capital raising. However, the slight drop in gross earnings and significant loan loss provisions might temper enthusiasm, though these are described as non-recurrent.
United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc released its audited financial results for the year ended December 31, 2025. The bank reported a 9.4% increase in total assets to N33.2 trillion and an 11.8% increase in customer deposits to N27.2 trillion. Gross earnings slightly decreased to N3.09 trillion from N3.19 trillion in 2024, attributed to prudent risk management decisions, including N331 billion in loan loss provisions and N278 billion in fair value changes on derivatives, which are largely non-recurrent. Despite these, United Bank for Africa maintained strong underlying performance with operating profit exceeding N1 trillion before exceptional items. The bank's capital position remained robust, with shareholders' funds rising to N4.25 trillion and a capital adequacy ratio of 23.2%. United Bank for Africa successfully concluded a capital raising program, securing N395 billion in additional capital, in response to the Nigeria — Central Bank of Nigeria's new recapitalization requirements. Oliver Alawuba, Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, and Ugo Nwaghodoh, Executive Director, Finance & Risk Management, both emphasized the strength of United Bank for Africa's Pan-African diversified model and strategic balance sheet repositioning for sustainable growth.
