Aliko Dangote Urges Malaria Elimination

Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Nigeria's India — National Malaria Elimination Programme and United Nations Malaria Ambassador, has called for urgent, coordinated action from governments and the private sector to eliminate malaria. Speaking on World Malaria Day 2026, Dangote emphasized that despite significant progress, malaria remains a devastating disease, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, which accounts for over 90% of the global burden. He highlighted that while tools like next-generation vaccines and improved diagnostics exist, large-scale implementation is crucial. Dangote Group is cited as an example of private sector involvement through workplace and community initiatives. He stressed the need for strong public-private partnerships and sustained investment to combat emerging threats like drug and insecticide resistance, urging collective accountability to achieve a malaria-free world.
