Essentiale EXCEL Trial Success for MASLD

A new study, the EXCEL clinical trial conducted by Essentiale (an Opella brand), has demonstrated that treatment with essential phospholipids significantly reduces liver fat, improves fatigue, and enhances glycaemic control in individuals with Metabolic dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), also known as 'Fatty Liver Disease'. The multi-centre, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, the first of its kind to test essential phospholipids, found a 2.5 times greater reduction in liver fat compared to diet and exercise alone. The study also reported statistically significant improvements in patient-reported fatigue and reduced HbA1c levels in MASLD patients with comorbidities like type 2 diabetes. This groundbreaking research, published in Liver International, highlights the clinical importance of early intervention and offers an effective, evidence-based treatment option for the millions affected by MASLD worldwide.
