Guangdong Liquid Sunshine Green Energy has selected Johnson Matthey as the technology partner for its first commercial-scale biomethanol plant in China — Tiandong County, Guangxi, China. The project, supported by China's Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for green transition, aims to produce 75,000 tonnes of biomethanol annually in its first phase, with construction starting later this year. A second phase is planned to produce e-methanol by combining excess carbon dioxide with electrolytic hydrogen, potentially meeting e-fuel mandates in Europe. East China Engineering Science and Technology is a key engineering partner, and all three entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for future collaborations. The project is jointly constructed with the China — Tiandong County People's Government and China Coal Guangxi New Energy, and Guangdong Liquid Sunshine Green Energy is co-developing gasification technology with the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology.
