India Labour Ministry Heatwave Advisory

The India — Ministry of Labor and Employment has issued a nationwide advisory to all states and Union Territories in India, urging them to implement immediate preventive and mitigation measures to protect workers from the adverse effects of rising temperatures and heatwave conditions. The advisory emphasizes a coordinated approach for workers in outdoor and labor-intensive sectors, recommending measures such as rescheduling working hours, providing adequate drinking water and rest areas, ensuring cooling of workplaces, and making provisions for emergency ice packs. Special attention is recommended for construction workers, brick kiln workers, daily wage earners, and casual laborers. Various government agencies, including the India — Directorate General of Training, India — National Board for Workers Education, India — Employees State Insurance Corporation, India — Directorate General of Labour Welfare, India — Employees Provident Fund Organisation, and United States — National Weather Service, have been advised to organize awareness programs, establish help desks for heat stroke cases, and ensure proper facilities during their activities.
