The European Investment Bank, through its EIB Global arm, has committed €160 million in financing to Pakistan, marking its return to the country after a decade. This funding is divided into two main projects: €100 million will support the Pakistan — Sindh housing initiative, the world's largest ongoing reconstruction program, aiming to rebuild 2.1 million rural homes damaged by the 2022 floods. The remaining €60 million is allocated to the Pakistan — Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation to construct two energy-efficient filtration plants in Gharo and Pipri, which will supply 300 million liters of clean drinking water daily to Pakistan — Karachi residents. These agreements were announced during the EU-Pakistan Business Forum in Islamabad and are part of the European Union's 'Global Gateway' strategy, which seeks to mobilize €400 billion in global investments. The projects aim to strengthen climate resilience, improve access to safe drinking water, and support inclusive, sustainable development in Pakistan. Other international financial institutions like the World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank, and Islamic Development Bank are also supporting the Pakistan — Sindh housing program.
