The report on Europe's record-breaking heat and climate change impacts in 2025 signals increased risks for industries like Agriculture due to droughts and wildfires, and potentially higher costs for the Insurance sector. The European Union's decision to weaken climate rules could affect green investment and energy transition efforts.

A joint annual report by the World Meteorological Organization and the Copernicus Programme's Climate Change Service revealed that almost all of Europe experienced above-average heat in 2025. The year broke records for wildfires, burning over 1 million hectares, and saw Europe's overall sea surface temperature hit an annual high, with 86% of the region suffering strong marine heatwaves. More than half of Europe was hit by drought conditions, making it one of the three driest years for soil moisture since 1992. Sub-Arctic Norway, Sweden, and Finland experienced their heaviest heatwave on record, and Iceland recorded its second-largest glacier loss. These findings highlight the increasingly severe consequences of climate change in Europe, the world's fastest-warming continent, at a time when the European Union has weakened some emissions-cutting policies due to economic concerns.
