Mother Jailed for Faking Son's Cancer

Michelle Bodzsar, a 45-year-old mother from West Lakes, was sentenced in Australia's District Court for faking her six-year-old son's cancer to solicit thousands of dollars in donations. Judge Geraldine Davison rejected Bodzsar's claims of financial hardship as the primary motive, instead characterizing her actions as cruel, manipulative, and attention-seeking. Bodzsar pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in acts likely to cause harm to her son and 10 counts of deception. She forced her son to take pseudo medicine daily and uploaded social media posts with pictures of him with a shaved head to secure donations. Her actions caused significant emotional harm to her son and daughter, and led to her husband, Ben Miller, losing his job and career. Bodzsar was sentenced to four years, three months, and 20 days in jail, with a non-parole period of two years and four months.
