The India — Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has signed a 70-year lease agreement with the Department of Agriculture and the Government of India — Uttar Pradesh to establish a Basmati & Organic Training Centre-cum-Demo Farm in Pilibhit. This centre, covering nearly seven acres, will provide training, capacity building, and research support for Basmati and organic farming, benefiting farmers in India — Uttar Pradesh and India — Uttarakhand. Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada highlighted the importance of expanding organic cultivation. Additionally, an AI-based Basmati Paddy Survey project for 2026-2028 was unveiled, aiming to cover 4 million hectares and engage over 500,000 farmers for precise crop assessment and improved export planning. The centre will also serve as an All India Coordinated Research Projects (AICRP) centre for national-level Basmati trials.
