Independent National Electoral Commission Schedules Elections

The Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled by-elections for June 20, 2026, to fill vacant senatorial seats in Nigeria — Enugu State, Nigeria — Nasarawa State, Nigeria — Rivers State, and Nigeria — Ondo State, a State House of Assembly seat in Nigeria — Kebbi State, and a House of Representatives seat in Nigeria — Kano State. These by-elections will run concurrently with the Nigeria — Ekiti State governorship election. The announcement was made by Joash Amupitan, Chairman of the Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), during a ceremony to welcome Jamila Malafa as a new National Commissioner. Jamila Malafa, with a background in military service and electoral operations, pledged to contribute to the commission's mandate. Additionally, the Nigeria — Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has initiated a two-day Post-Election Training Audit (PETA) and Pre-Training Assessment Workshop (PRETA) in Abuja, led by Ja afar Ibrahim Sani of United States — National Institutes of Health (TEI), to enhance the quality of electoral training programs in preparation for future elections, including those in Nigeria — Ekiti State and Nigeria — Osun State.
