Telenor Launches Norwegian Sovereign Cloud

Telenor has announced the establishment of Telenor Sovereign Cloud, a new company in Norway dedicated to providing nationally controlled cloud solutions. This initiative addresses the growing need for enhanced security, resilience, and regulatory compliance in cloud services, particularly for public sector entities and large enterprises with critical societal functions. The platform will operate from data centers in Norway, ensuring all data is stored, processed, and managed under Norwegian jurisdiction, isolated from global cloud solutions. Karianne Tung, Norway's Minister of Digitalisation, has expressed support for the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the government's plan to strengthen Norway's digital sovereignty. Telenor plans a pilot phase with selected customers, with a commercial launch anticipated in the first half of 2027. This move is part of Telenor's broader Nordic ambition within secure digital infrastructure.
