India and Japan have significantly strengthened their strategic partnership in science, technology, and innovation through a high-level bilateral meeting in New Delhi. Key agreements were exchanged, including a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in health and medical devices between Japan — Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development, India — Indian Council of Medical Research, and India — Department of Science and Technology (India). Additionally, a Letter of Intent (LoI) on cooperation in Quantum Science and Technology was signed between United Kingdom — Met Office and India — Department of Science and Technology (India). These collaborations aim to leverage Japan's advanced technological capabilities and India's talent pool to accelerate innovation in frontier areas such as quantum computing, communication, sensing, and secure communication networks, as well as in medical technologies. The discussions also built upon the outcomes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Japan in August 2025, which laid the groundwork for expanding cooperation under the India-Japan Science, Technology and Innovation Partnership. Both nations expressed confidence that these agreements will promote deeper collaboration spanning research, application, and industrial deployment, contributing to a free, open, and innovation-driven Indo-Pacific region.
