The launch of Nel ASA's next-generation pressurized alkaline electrolyser system is expected to significantly reduce the cost of green Hydrogen production, making it more accessible and competitive. This could lead to increased adoption of Hydrogen in various industries, positively impacting companies involved in renewable energy and decarbonization efforts.
Nel ASA has commercially launched its next-generation pressurized alkaline electrolyser system, a new technology platform designed to simplify hydrogen production projects while significantly improving cost, efficiency, and scalability. This system, developed over eight years and successfully tested at Nel ASA's Herøya facility in Norway, sets a new cost benchmark for large-scale electrolyser systems, enabling an estimated turnkey full-scope cost below USD 1,450 per kW for a 25 MW plant. The platform features a modular, skid-based design for outdoor installation, reducing CAPEX by 40-60% and shortening project timelines. The European Union's Innovation Fund supported the industrialization of this platform with a grant of up to EUR 135 million, highlighting its strategic importance for Europe's clean energy transition. This innovation is expected to unlock new business cases for renewable Hydrogen across various sectors, including ammonia, methanol, refining, chemical industries, sustainable aviation fuels, and steel production, while also enhancing energy resilience and security of supply.
