India's Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, announced that the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and Oman, signed in December 2025, is expected to come into force from June 1, 2026. This agreement will grant duty-free access to 98% of India's exports to Oman, including textiles, agricultural produce, and leather items, while India will reduce tariffs on Omanese products such as dates, marbles, and petrochemical items. Additionally, Goyal provided an update on the ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Chile. The discussions with Chile are focused on securing access to critical minerals like Galan Lithium and Copper, which are vital for India's electronics, auto, and solar industries. Despite challenges due to the differing economic scales, both nations are seeking innovative solutions to finalize the CEPA.
