The expanded partnership between the International Fund for Agricultural Development and India is expected to positively impact the agricultural and rural development sectors in India. Increased investment and focus on climate resilience and value chains could lead to improved agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods, potentially boosting related industries and local economies.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development and India have expanded their partnership, launching a new eight-year roadmap for sustainable rural development. A senior International Fund for Agricultural Development delegation, led by Donald Brown, visited India for five days, holding discussions with officials from the India — Ministry of Finance (India), India — Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and India — Ministry of Rural Development. The roadmap focuses on finance, value chains, climate resilience, and rural enterprise, aiming to mobilize co-financing, de-risk innovation, and embed successful approaches within India's policy frameworks. Key priorities include strengthening farmer producer organisations, promoting self-sufficiency in pulses and oilseeds, improving input-use efficiency, expanding digital agriculture, and promoting climate-resilient crops. The International Fund for Agricultural Development currently finances 35 rural development projects in India, with a portfolio valued at USD 4.2 billion.
