Finland's Shelter Exports Boom Globally

Finland is emerging as a global leader in bomb shelter technology and construction, driven by its historical experience with Russia and current geopolitical tensions. Its Merihaka civil shelter in Helsinki, a dual-use facility, has become a showcase for Finnish companies like Verona Shelters Group and Temet Group, attracting around 800 foreign delegations, including Ukrainian mayors and representatives from Saudi Arabia. These companies are experiencing high demand from countries such as Poland, Germany, and the Middle East, with Temet Group even building a factory in the United Arab Emirates to meet the anticipated need for hundreds of shelters. Both Ukraine and Poland are overhauling their shelter systems, with Poland allocating significant funds and both nations introducing legislation for mandatory shelters in new buildings, despite challenges with private investor cancellations in Ukraine due to increased costs. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and tensions with Iran are key factors fueling this global interest in robust defense infrastructure.
