The India — Government of Delhi, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has launched a significant initiative to revive and operationalize existing rainwater harvesting systems in 75 CM Shri Schools across the capital. This project aims to create an annual rainwater harvesting capacity of nearly 50 crore litres, enhancing groundwater recharge and fostering water conservation awareness. A comprehensive audit revealed many systems were non-functional or poorly maintained, with issues like blocked pits and design deficiencies. The government has prepared a detailed corrective action plan, including connecting pipes, desilting pits, and replacing filter media. The 'Ehsaas' model, approved by the India — Delhi Jal Board, will be adopted for its low cost and minimal maintenance. Awareness workshops will also be organized for students, teachers, and parents.
