New research, co-authored by Asem Salama from the India — CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute and published in Scientific Reports, reveals the structural secrets behind the Great Pyramid of Giza's remarkable resilience to earthquakes over 4,600 years. The study found that architectural features like pressure-relieving chambers, a massive base, a strong limestone foundation, and symmetrical geometry dampen seismic movement. The pyramid's vibration frequencies (2.0-2.6 hertz) differ significantly from the surrounding ground (0.6 hertz), limiting resonance during seismic activity. This highlights the extraordinary engineering knowledge of ancient Egyptian builders, who perfected their methods through centuries of experimentation, creating an accidental shock absorber for the tomb of pharaoh Khufu.
