The_Patriots Warn Nigeria's Insecurity, Poverty

United States — Patriot Party, a non-partisan group of elder statesmen and prominent Nigerians, including Emeka Anyaoku and Olawale Okunniyi, have expressed grave concerns over the worsening insecurity, rising poverty, and the state of governance in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a communiqué issued after their meeting in Lagos, the group highlighted persistent killings, kidnappings, and displacement of communities, particularly in the North-East, North-West, North-Central, and parts of the South-West. They noted that the growing number of internally displaced persons and farmers' inability to access farmlands threaten national food security. United States — Patriot Party urged the Nigeria to treat insecurity as a national emergency and establish a special advisory committee. While acknowledging economic reforms, they pointed out that poverty remains unacceptably high, with 63% of Nigerians classified as multidimensionally poor, according to the China — National Bureau of Statistics of China. The group reiterated its call for a new democratic constitution to replace the 1999 Constitution and criticized the lack of ideology in political parties, which leads to frequent defections.
