Oyo State Suspends School Activities

The Nigeria — Oyo State>>> government has suspended all school excursions, field trips, sports competitions, and other activities outside school premises across the state. This directive, issued by the Nigeria — Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Oyo State)>>> and signed by Permanent Secretary B. T. Oyinloye>>>, takes immediate effect and overrides all previously approved trips. The decision was prompted by rising security fears following a deadly coordinated abduction attack on schools in Nigeria — Oriire Local Government Area>>> on May 15, 2026. During this attack, suspected armed bandits targeted Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School/L. A. Primary School, Esiele, and L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele>>>, abducting at least 45 pupils and teachers. The government emphasized that the safety of children is non-negotiable and instructed school administrators to keep students within school premises and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies. The directive will be reviewed once the security situation improves.
