The recall by Americas of over 80,000 vehicles could lead to increased costs for the company due to repairs and potential damage to its brand reputation. This event may cause a slight negative sentiment towards Americas's stock and potentially other automotive manufacturers if similar issues are perceived.
Americas is recalling more than 80,000 2023-2025 Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid vehicles due to damaged floor wiring beneath the front passenger seat. This defect can prevent airbags and seat belts from deploying properly and may also cause unintended side curtain airbag deployment. The United States — National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received documents detailing the issue. To address this, Americas dealers will inspect, replace, and reroute the floor wiring assembly, and install wiring covers at no cost to owners. Notifications to owners will be mailed in March. This recall follows a previous one in November where Hyundai Motor Company and Americas recalled over 208,000 electric vehicles for a charging control unit transistor issue.
