Peter Yarrow, Peter, Paul and Mary Singer, Dies

Peter Yarrow, a singer-songwriter and one-third of the folk-music trio Peter, Paul and Mary, has died at the age of 86 in New York. He had been battling bladder cancer for four years. Yarrow co-wrote the enduring song 'Puff the Magic Dragon' and was known for his activism in civil rights and anti-war movements. Peter, Paul and Mary released six Billboard Top 10 singles, two No. 1 albums, and won five Grammys. They also helped popularize Bob Dylan's songs. The trio performed at the 1963 March on Washington. After a hiatus, they reunited in 1978 and continued performing until Mary Travers' death in 2009. Yarrow had a past conviction for indecent liberties with a minor, for which he was pardoned by President Jimmy Carter in 1981.
